I'm Dr. Sheena
I’m a Board-Certified Psychiatrist providing individualized psychiatric care to adults throughout New York. I believe great psychiatric care requires more than identifying symptoms and selecting a medication. It requires understanding the context of a person’s life, their history, and what they hope to change.
I completed my General Psychiatry residency training at Stony Brook University Hospital, where I was selected by faculty to serve as Administrative Chief Resident in recognition of my clinical judgment, leadership, and dedication to patient care. Since completing residency, I have been practicing as a full-time outpatient psychiatrist, providing comprehensive evaluations and ongoing medication management for adults with a wide range of psychiatric concerns.
In my practice, I combine medication management with psychotherapy approaches, including cognitive behavioral therapy (CBT), psychodynamic therapy, and mindfulness-based techniques. I work collaboratively with patients to understand what is contributing to their difficulties and develop thoughtful treatment plans that are evidence-based and tailored to the individual.
I specialize in treating anxiety, depression, bipolar disorder, ADHD, sleep disorders, and psychotic disorders. My goal is to provide care that is thorough, thoughtful, and focused on helping patients achieve meaningful improvements in their lives.
Treatment built around you.
Dr. Sheena integrates several evidence-based modalities, drawing on each as needed rather than applying a single method to every patient.
Medication Management
Careful, evidence-based prescribing with ongoing monitoring — adjusted collaboratively as treatment progresses.
Cognitive Behavioral Therapy
Structured, skills-based work that helps identify and shift patterns of thought and behavior that keep symptoms in place.
Psychodynamic Therapy
Exploring how past experience and relationships shape present-day patterns, for deeper and more lasting change.
Supportive Therapy
Steady, encouraging support that reinforces existing coping strengths during difficult periods.
Holistic Planning
Each plan is built around the patient's full life — not just a diagnosis — and adjusted as circumstances change.

What to expect
A straightforward path from first contact to ongoing care.
First Contact
Dr. Sheena responds to initial calls and emails as soon as possible, typically within one business day. You'll have the chance to speak with him directly and arrange your first appointment. He'll follow up by email to confirm the date and time, along with a short packet of paperwork to complete beforehand.
First Appointment
The initial evaluation is a comprehensive 60-minute session. Dr. Sheena takes a thorough history — this visit is more structured than a typical follow-up, giving him the full picture needed to build a treatment plan. By the end, you and Dr. Sheena will discuss a plan of action tailored to your needs.
Follow-Up Appointments
Follow-up visits are typically 30 or 45 minutes, based on your preference and needs. Any changes to medication are made collaboratively, after a discussion between you and Dr. Sheena. Visit frequency varies by where you are in treatment — weekly for some patients early on, monthly for most, and stretching to every three months or longer later in treatment as things stabilize.
For urgent questions or concerns between visits, Dr. Sheena responds quickly to patient portal messages.
FAQ
A few common questions before your first visit.
When are you accepting new patients?
Dr. Sheena's practice is opening soon in Manhattan and is not yet seeing patients. Email the office to join the waitlist and be notified as soon as appointments become available.
Do you offer in-person or virtual appointments?
Dr. Sheena offers both in-person and virtual (telehealth) appointments, so you can choose whatever fits your schedule and comfort level — including moving between the two as your needs change.
Do you accept insurance?
Dr. Sheena is an out-of-network provider. This allows him to spend more time with each patient and tailor care without the constraints insurance companies often place on treatment. Patients pay for sessions directly and are provided with a superbill — an itemized receipt you can submit to your insurance company for reimbursement. Many PPO plans reimburse a significant percentage of the session fee for out-of-network mental health care, and we're happy to help you understand what your plan may cover.
What are your fees?
The initial intake evaluation is a comprehensive 60-minute session and is $600. Follow-up visits are 30 or 45 minutes, depending on your needs; the 30-minute follow-up is $300. Please contact the office if you have questions about rates before scheduling.
Do you offer pharmacogenetic testing?
Yes. Dr. Sheena offers GeneSight pharmacogenetic testing, which can help guide medication selection based on how your body is likely to process certain psychiatric medications.
How long does treatment last?
Treatment length is different for everyone. There are people who will only need to be seen for a few months. There are some people who will need to be seen a few years. And there is a smaller set of people who, due to the severity of their diagnosis, may require lifelong treatment. Whenever you have treatment questions, ask your doctor and they will review all of your questions and concerns.
What is your cancellation policy?
If you need to cancel an upcoming appointment, we ask that you provide at least 24 hours' notice. Appointments cancelled with less than 24 hours' notice, or missed entirely, will be charged the full session fee.
What if I have an emergency?
Dr. Sheena is available during business hours and usually responds to messages within one business day. If you are experiencing a mental health or medical emergency, please call 911 or go to your nearest emergency room right away.
